COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS 2021 CONFERENCE

The conference was watched by 65 people online and 35 in attendance. Thank you to all attendees!

Some time ago I wrote somewhere that there are not many „work“ events that would be as fun as the COMSOL Multiphysics Conference. I didn't know then that there would be no events a few years later. I am all the more pleased that after the closed year of 2020 we dared to follow the tradition and overcame all the uncertainties and technical challenges. 35 participants physically visited the 5th year of the COMSOL Multiphysics Conference, who were not deterred by the persisting government restrictions. Another 65 participants tuned in to the online transmission, which carried the events from the lecture hall. The list of tests and technical problems we had to overcome at the company is long and I would not like to burden you with it. Suffice it to say that thanks to the studio-master Jirka Šust, the sound and image in the hall and at the screens was perfect, including the inputs of the online guests. The list of news closes with a new venue, the beautiful Winery U Kapličky in Zaječí na Morava, which surprised almost everyone, including us. Nice staff, charming views, great cuisine, excellent wines and a swimming pool, which only Honza Kořínek from Valeo ventured in this exceptionally cold spring.

The conference program started on Thursday, May 27, but traditionally we welcomed many of the participants on Wednesday. The staff of the restaurant / bar prepared an interesting strategy for us – they announced in advance that it would close at 22:00. Because we are all crazy from bans and regulations, so we had to eat like crazy to get it done by 10:00. I don't have to reveal how much fun it was at the actual closing at midnight.

Thursday's programme of the conference started with an opening speech by Petr Byron and was followed by a quick presentation of COMSOL products on the role of air flow around the island of Guadeloupe. It was followed by a live entrance by a guest from the Swedish company COMSOL, Niklas Rom. Niklas presented a post entitled „News in COMSOL Multiphysics, Server and Compiler“. After the lecture, Matouš Lorenc and Aleš Hrouda took the floor and presented the results of our collaboration with the Technical University in Liberec – Searching for the Optimal Cut in Surgery. After lunch, Niklas Rom presented on CFD Module and Heat Transfer Module and was replaced at the microphone by Matouš Lorenc with a workshop on acoustics simulations. Thursday's programme was completed by a very fruitful discussion within the coordination meeting on simulation teaching. After the meeting, we rushed to the cellar for a dinner with a guided tasting of local wines. After that, we sat for a long time, drank, ate and debated. During this evening, one legend was born, which says that Josef Souček (FBMI ČVUT) drank 10 beers without a service stop in the toilet. The end of the evening was enhanced by a modern interpretation of the comedy theatre play „The vain love effort“ by drunken rugby players. The theatre play was spontaneously commented on at two in the morning in front of the cellar by participants from Plzeň.

Sunny Friday morning belonged traditionally to user contributions, of which there were 11. We apologize to Mr. Souček, whose contribution did not fit into the program – we will make up for it next time. The lectures were at a high level and the lecturers are again huge thanks. The block was started by an online presentation describing the Modelling of passive cooling of a wooden building. Then followed by a treatise on micro-reology with Particle Tracing Module, a presentation on the transformation of the ODR system with harmonic excitation to the PDR system, first-class presented modelling of magneto-rheological elastomers, a presentation on the modeling of the growth of nanostructures from the liquid phase and before the break we made a summary presentation on several very interesting tasks (each of which would deserve a separate contribution) solved in the design of the COMPASS tokamak. After the break we listened to an online presentation on the use of piezomagnetic and elastokaroc phenomena, followed by a technical problems-marked lecture on heat generation in one of the already mentioned magneto-rheological elastomers (but you can view the presentations in the conference archive in peace). The block of user contributions ended with simulations of tissue electrocution and presentations on the stability and heating of the particle in the optical trap. The last presentation was the connection of COMSOL with Matlab in the design of the Tesla transformer. After lunch Matouš Lorenc and Aleš Hrouda talked about how we created a digital twin of the radiator through LiveLink for Simulink. This concludes the next year of the COMSOL Multiphysics 2021 Conference and we can say that we definitely enjoyed it thanks to the great organization of our colleague Míša Švecová.

We look forward to seeing you next time!
