Technical Computing Camp 2016

TECHNICAL COMPUTING CAMP 2016

The third year of the event Technical Computing Camp was held again in the Hotel Fontana on the Brno Dam on 8.-9.9.2016.

The two-day format of the TCC made it possible to offer a diverse program for participants:
  • Our lectures – news in MATLAB and COMSOL Multiphysics systems.
  • Lectures of invited users.
  • Showcase – practical demonstrations of the use of our tools in the form of a mini-exhibition
  • Competition for the best user project.
  • Creative workshop – an opportunity for teamwork on simple tasks.
  • Partner exposure.

Thursday morning was reserved for the plenary session, where we presented the news and demonstrated the use of our tools in various areas. We are honored that our event was also visited by a representative of MathWorks, Mr. Alex Tarchini, who shared with us a bit of history in the development of MATLAB and told us about the experience of its use in universities and research institutes around the world.

In the afternoon we divided into two groups, based on your increased interest in COMSOL Multiphysics we prepared a special section dedicated to this program. Your interest in this unique and in its category perhaps the most progressively developing program ever pleases us!

The MATLAB section was dedicated to invited lectures of users who introduced us to the use of the program in their projects.

An evening sitting at the grill on the terrace gave us all the opportunity to have an informal debate, we discussed long into the night.

On Friday morning we started with a warm-up quiz, the most successful participants take away from the event a complete set of our promotional items, which they received for their correct answers. Then ten practical demonstrations of the use of our programs were prepared in the hall. The star of the day, besides the robot NAO, was a colleague Martin Kožíšek, who showed us the magic with laminar flow of liquid.

Only 4 participants entered the contest for the best user project this year – so the organizers decided that the valuable prizes are won by all, regardless of the order. As the best we evaluated the work of Mr. Marko Adamkovic „Spreading electrical activation in SLAB models heart steni“. I hereby call on all those who work with our tools to participate in next year's contest! The contest is open to all users (business sphere, home use, student work).

In the afternoon, we prepared a new feature for you – the Creative Workshop, where you tried to solve several tasks in teams led by my colleagues. It was interesting to see how math teachers plug in electronic circuits and then program LEDs flashing in Simulink, how complete beginners are able to create a simple GUI application with the help of Application Designer, or how experienced users who are otherwise involved in control systems teach the computer to recognize brands of beverage manufacturers by the Deep Learning method.

We are glad that the TCC 2016 event caught your attention. This year there were 118 of us, we are pleased that you stuck with us in abundance until the end. Your interest is also evidenced by the fact that my colleagues were constantly under siege, answering questions, providing consultations or giving advice on examples. We have never had such an active audience, thank you!

Nice weather certainly contributed not only to decent consumption of liquids of all kinds (100 l of Polička 12°, 50 l of Kout 12°, 100 l of Kofola, 85 l of juices and 95 l of water), but also to the relaxing atmosphere of the whole event.

Thank you to the speakers, contestants and all other participants for their contribution to the success of the event. We look forward to the next Technical Computing Camp 2017 in September next year!
